1. About Children’s Cancer Research Fund

Who is Children’s Cancer Research Fund?

Children’s Cancer Research Fund (CCRF) supports the brightest scientists whose ideas make the greatest impact for children with cancer. We also support vital family services and advocate for childhood cancer education and awareness.

How are the fundraising dollars used?

Children’s Cancer Research Fund works closely with researchers to fund groundbreaking projects quickly and ensure that promising discoveries continue uninterrupted. The experts we fund share their findings with more than 9,000 experts that are a part of Children’s Oncology Group throughout the world.

Where do the donations go?

Since 1981, Children’s Cancer Research Fund has given nearly $160 million to research, education, and patient and family services.

Can my donation really make a difference?

Yes! Every $1 donated to Children’s Cancer Research Fund helps scientists secure an additional $18 in funding from the government and other sources. In addition, CCRF helps jump-start new research projects and fuel the preclinical studies that are required before a new treatment can be used with patients.  

2. About Time to Fly

What is Time to Fly?

Time to Fly is Children’s Cancer Research Fund’s annual fundraising walk. Each year, Time to Fly aims to raise critical dollars for childhood cancer research, while providing an opportunity to gather, share and connect with others who are affected by childhood cancer.

What is there to do at Time to Fly?

Grab your friends and family and join us at Phalen Regional Park for lots of family-friendly activities, including face-painting, magicians, team photos, games and more! The 1K Kids’ Fun Run is back for kids ages 12 and under, with awards and prizes for participants. We’ll finish off the day with the 5K Walk to Cure Children’s Cancer around Lake Phalen and fundraising awards for teams and individuals.

What if I want to run for Time to Fly?

While Time to Fly will no longer offer organized, chip-certified runs on the day, we would love to have you run for us in another event. Children’s Cancer Research Fund is now a proud charity partner of Twin Cities in Motion, with guaranteed entry spots into the Twin Cities Medtronic Marathon and 10-Mile events, as well as having access to spots in various TCM runs throughout the year.

3. Registering for Time to Fly

Do I need to register for Time to Fly?

Yes! In order to host Time to Fly at Phalen Regional Park, the city of St. Paul requires that we account for every person in attendance at this event. Please help us out by making sure that everyone in your team or group are fully registered – even if you are not planning to participate in the Walk or Kids’ Fun Run, but will be at the park for the festivities.

And good news – all registrations are FREE this year until Sep 3!

Do I need to have a team to participate in Time to Fly?

Participants are welcome to create their own team from scratch, join an existing team or register as an individual.

How do I register for Time to Fly?

Visit the home page of Time to Fly and click the register button. You can choose to join a team, create your own team, or participate as an individual.

Can I register my friend / family member / team member / etc.?

For liability reasons, Time to Fly participants may only register and sign the electronic waiver for themselves and children under the age of 18 of whom they are the legal parent or guardian.

Can I order an Honor/Memorial sign after registration?

Of course! Order your sign at any time or call our staff at 952-893-9355.

Can I order an Honor/Memorial race route sign even though I won’t be present?

4. Fundraising for Time to Fly

Why is fundraising important?

While research has helped increase the overall childhood cancer survival rate to 80 percent, 38 kids still pass away in the U.S. every week.  Only 4 percent of federal cancer research funding is earmarked for childhood cancer.  Children’s Cancer Research Fund helps fill the gap through fundraising so that innovative treatments and trials can get from the lab to children’s bedsides quickly.

Does purchasing a t-shirt or Honor/Memorial sign raise funds for childhood cancer?

In order to keep these costs low to participants, we offer the event t-shirts and sign purchases at cost.

Can I share a fundraising page with someone else?

Each participant should create and manage donations through their own, individual fundraising page. This will help you track and thank your donors and make it easier for our team to see where donations are coming from.

I need help fundraising.

Fundraising for a cause—especially one you’re passionate about—is a lot easier than most people think! 

Often the fear of asking can be the hardest part to overcome, and many people find that once you start asking the support you’ll receive from your network will surprise you.

Our Participant Center is a fantastic resource for both new and veteran fundraisers, with tips, ideas and downloadable tools to help make fundraising easy and fun. We would also love to hear from you directly and offer one-on-one coaching to support you in reaching your goals.

Is there a fundraising minimum for participating in Time to Fly?

We encourage participants to set high goals for their personal and team fundraising to make the biggest impact towards our mission to end childhood cancer. There is no minimum amount you have to fundraise in order to be a part of our team. You do, however, have the chance to earn exclusive thank you gifts and race day perks as you hit various fundraising milestones!

What if someone gives me a cash/check donation?

This is considered an “offline donation” – any kind of transaction that is not handled virtually online through the Time to Fly website or app. Please follow these steps to ensure your donation is recorded correctly:

  1. Visit your fundraising page and click the offline donation form, fill it out, and attach it with your donation. This helps our donor services staff credit this donation to your fundraising goals.

Please allow at least one week for CCRF to process the donation, at which time you should see it appear in your fundraising dashboard on the Time to Fly website and app.

5. Donating to Time to Fly

How do I donate to an individual?

Search by team or individual by clicking...   Click on the person you would like to donate to and you will be taken to their personal fundraising page.  Click “Donate” and follow the screens to enter your payment information.

Why can’t I donate to a team?

Because fundraising gives participants the chance to earn fun recognition gifts like Time to Fly gear and event day perks, all donations must go to an individual, rather than a team.  This helps us track when participants reach fundraising milestones and earn their thank you gifts.  Please click on an individual team member to donate.

Will I receive a receipt for my donation?

You should receive an automatic response to the e-mail you entered when making your donation, confirming your transaction.

Is my donation tax deductible?

Yes – all donations are 100% tax deductible. Please keep your receipt for your records and consult your tax advisor for further details.

Can I earn recognition gifts by donating?

Only the participant to whom the donation is given to will receive credit towards their fundraising goals and fundraising recognition gifts. If you would like the chance to achieve these milestones for yourself, please register for Time to Fly and create your own fundraising page – registration is FREE until September 3!
