Why Fundraising for Children's Cancer Research Fund is Important to Me
I'm fundraising on behalf of Children's Cancer Research Fund because I believe no child should have to deal with the devastating effects of childhood cancer.
I think everyone can relate to cancer by knowing someone or having a loved one go through the cancer battle - simply stated, cancer sucks! I had my mom face the battle as a three-time breast cancer survivor (yes three separate times, she's a champ!) and most recently ocular melanoma. My sister faced that same breast cancer battle at age 30 - also being a breast cancer survivor (the fighter must run in the family). The worst part about it all is that you're left without answers on why cancer happens and is something that you have no control over which is why cancer is so scary. As learned from my family, you have the choice to fight the disease, choose your attitude, and lean on your support system to come out stronger on the other side.
Saying all that - when my friend Gina nominated me to be a bachelor, this was an easy cause to get behind and it was a no brainer to say yes. Cancer is horrible, just saying the word is horrible, and I can't imagine kids that have to go through this battle when they should be focusing on the simpler things in life and dreaming about their future. Not only is cancer tough on the child but it impacts their whole family. No siblings or parents should have to see their child suffer or the unspeakable- loss of a child.
I believe that by investing in the brightest and boldest minds in childhood cancer research, one day we will have a cure. I believe that every dollar I raise for childhood cancer research could be THE dollar that changes everything for a family affected by cancer.
I started out the fundraising by contributing $500 to get the ball rolling. If you are able, I would love if you joined me with a donation - whether large or small, as we never know when we'll get that breakthrough to a cure and every dollar helps on that journey.
Thanks for your consideration and hope to see you at the event on March 1st!
